Looking for opportunities to make extra income while still maintaining my full time job. I work at night and usually spend a lot of time on my computer after work either playing video games or browsing. Would like to be productive and earn some money instead. I’ve been really interested in Amazon FBA but don’t know where to start, and I’m more curious if it’s even still worth it at this point especially with the new administration coming. Either that or starting small with something that would pay $100 a day and purely on a computer.
There are a few different ways to do FBA. Once you decide which you want to pursue, you will have to research it.
-
Retail arbitrage or online arbitrage: You buy items on clearance in person or online, prep them (remove price tags, add the Amazon barcode), and send them to Amazon. Some branded products can be tricky, as Amazon is picky about needing an invoice and proof that the item is authentic.
-
Wholesale: Buy items wholesale, prep them, and send them to Amazon. You will share a listing with other sellers unless you create your own by packaging them in sets. It requires a lot of preparation, or you can pay for a service to handle it.
-
Private label: Order a product directly from the manufacturer, brand it, and create your own listing.
If you want to be completely hands-off and operate from a computer, you will need to pay for a prep center, which will cut into your profits. I know one successful person doing FBA who uses the wholesale method and some private label. He rents space in a warehouse and employs people to receive pallets and prep them for FBA. It’s an entire operation.

These are all really good points. However, I’d personally stay away from Private Label unless you go deep into building a brand outside of Amazon. Slapping a logo on a product from Alibaba and waiting for the money to come in is not the case anymore. You need to build a following with an email list, social following, etc.
@Charlie
Is there more info I can take a look at? Especially for prep center pricing? I have been doing sporadic FBA I got from Alibaba, and it takes way more time than what I can afford to spend.

Sorry, I’ve never used one. I did everything myself or with some help from family. The prices were too expensive for me, so I didn’t look into it further. But you can just Google ‘Amazon prep center,’ and a lot of results come up.
