Is Selling on Shutterstock a Good Way to Make Extra Cash?

I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures with my phone and real cameras. I’m looking for a side gig and thought about uploading images to Shutterstock to see if people will buy them. I take landscape and abstract photos of random objects that look nice and clean.

What I want to know is, are stock photos still in high demand now that AI is taking over the creative scene? Do people still buy stock photos, or do they just use AI to generate images?

I’m not aiming to make millions, but a few hundred a month would be nice.

Shutterstock was great until about 2013-2014. These days, it’s not worth your time.

There’s zero chance of making money there. The market is dead.

That’s disappointing.

An insider told me that only AI-generated content makes money now. Independent contributors are out of luck.

That’s a bummer. I was hoping there was still some profit in this area :pensive:

Stock images have pretty much died since the rise of AI.

Why not give it a shot? That’s the only way to really know.

That’s true, but with AI advancing so fast, I don’t want to waste my time if there’s no money to be made.

It might be tougher with AI taking over, but I bet some people are still making money. I doubt most people who buy images rely solely on AI.

@Merit
Exactly! Especially older folks; they seem a bit lost with AI tools. It could be easier for them just to buy stock photos for their businesses.
