I’m planning to start a vending machine business with the goal of reinvesting all profits to buy more machines. I’m reaching out to those already in the field for guidance. I have a couple of questions:
How did you secure locations for your machines? Did you cold call, walk in, or network? What strategies worked best?
Have you faced businesses asking for commission to place your machines? How do you usually handle that? What percentage do they typically request, and how do you negotiate? I’ve heard some manage to avoid commission altogether.
As a beginner, any tips or lessons from your experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Thank you for your insights! This is really helpful. Since I’m quite introverted and stay indoors a lot, approaching businesses with a professional demeanor might be my best approach.
I’ve also found used vending machines for sale that come with locations attached! Exciting! I’m set to call the seller after work, just curious about foot traffic.
Check out gyms. My local gym has a vending machine for water, energy drinks (like Prime/Ghost/C4), and protein snacks. It seems to do really well as it’s constantly being restocked.

Does the gym need to be local and independent, or can it be one of those big chain gyms? My LA Fitness doesn’t sell food or drinks, and I got shut down when I pitched the idea.
