I work at a mall that doesn’t have many food options, and people often complain about it. Many folks seem to really want French fries, which are super popular around here. So, I’m thinking of setting up a food cart that sells fries, like those hot dog stands you see. But here’s the thing: I don’t want to be stuck working at the cart all the time. I’m not sure how these stands hire employees. I was also considering renting it out, like some hot dog stands do. What do you think is the better option?
Hi Donna… Setting up a food cart selling French fries sounds like a great idea, especially if it addresses a gap in your mall’s food offerings. Hiring employees to manage the cart could give you the flexibility you desire.
You can oversee operations while having the freedom to focus on your other responsibilities. Renting it out is another option, potentially providing passive income, but you’d need to ensure whoever you rent it to maintains quality and adheres to your standards. Consider the level of involvement you want and weigh the pros and cons of each approach carefully before deciding.
I don’t think this is passive income. More like a business idea.
Honestly, you’ll need to work very hard for the first year or so until you can do it effortlessly, have improved the product, and are making enough money to hire local staff.
Remember, no one will be as passionate about making it succeed as you are, because you’re the owner benefiting the most. If you want it to succeed, consider bringing in a partner. Explain that they’ll get performance bonuses and the option to own a franchise in the future.
Once they’re reliable, find another location and repeat the process.
