Can you really turn hobbies into cash? I’ve been thinking about this and I make small handmade items in my spare time. I’m considering starting an online shop. Have any of you done this? I’d love your stories.
Check out the Community Highlights for some good opportunities. Just a heads up, don’t fall for offers that seem too good to be true. No one pays you a percentage of your crypto for just testing or sending it around.
I’ve spent over 10k on my hobbies.
For sure! I started selling my photography prints online and made over 10k. It’s all about finding your niche and marketing it right. Social media helps a lot, and platforms like Etsy are great for handmade stuff.
@Carter
I’m also into photography but only shoot film. I don’t have access to a darkroom. How do you print your photos? Do you find a quality service and frame them yourself before selling online?
I sell stock media and make around 15-20k a year.

That sounds great for a side hustle! Where do you sell your work? Do you promote it, and what kind of photos do you make? Are they real photography or AI-generated?
@Marlon
Honestly, no one is making that kind of money off AI-generated images unless it’s adult content.
My Magic the Gathering and Pokémon card collection are worth more than 10k now and have gone up a ton in value. I guess starting early pays off.

I collect Pokémon cards too!
I learned about AI prompting and now use it for AI voice and chat services for businesses. It starts out active but can become passive later on.

Can you tell me more about that?
@Hollis
Sure! I have demo calls for pitching clients and I’ve sent out information.

What does that even mean? lol
@Ashby
It means helping businesses swap out receptionists and voicemail with AI for answering calls.
I ran a freelance graphic design business. Honestly, I’m a bit upset that I only made 20k back in 2022. But I have to remember that I’m active duty military and I earned that doing album covers for rappers.
I know I could earn more, but I’m happy doing what I love. Freelancing takes a lot of effort in advertising and revisions. Moving forward, I want to focus on being an educator. I’ll work on tutorial content in my niche and sell products instead of just services.
It’s about finding something you love and that you can make money from, even if it’s a small group of people.
My friends love Warhammer and DnD. They spend a lot on those figures and related tools. People like me and you can produce things they want.
@Tatum
Can you break down what you did in design back then? I’m a designer and want to land more clients.

I focused on the music industry, working with both mainstream and indie artists. I designed artwork and concept art to market myself and took commissions for album art, logos, and merch designs.
As I got better, I started charging $300-$500 for bundled services like animating cover art and creating branding posts.
Sure, some colleagues were landing bigger artists than I was, which made me feel insecure. But I did all this while on active duty.
Going forward, I plan to create tools and resources to sell to other designers. Freelancing is a hustle. I worked hard, but I’d rather create something once and sell it multiple times. That’s real passive income. It takes a lot of work upfront but it’s worth it when the sales come in.
