How can I start making money from a family member’s warehousing and logistics services the quickest and most effectively?
I rent space so that I can keep motorcycles over the winter. I have no interest in working with real storage facilities. When I rent out space in my open area, I make more money than when a local rents out 8x10 storage spaces. While it’s not a major source of revenue, it is extra. I typically store about 30 bikes for six to seven months at a time, charging $50 per bike. Less than $60,000 was invested initially overall. I maintain the temperature at 50°F and have $2 million in insurance. My profit after running expenses is roughly $7,000. With the exception of the drop-off and pickup hours, it’s almost entirely passive money.
While I do not own one myself, I help the owner of the warehouse where I oversee and maintain one. When you have any questions regarding it, I can help. The biggest problem I’ve seen is that, should the entry get destroyed, you need to have a strategy in place on how to fix it. The gate is the component that breaks the most frequently, despite being relatively new. Apart than that, hardly much upkeep is required. Only two people have left the warehouse in a year despite it being completely filled.
As a software developer, I am interested in learning about software solutions used in self-storage facilities. Do these systems track anything, like customer information or contracts? Are they used to monitor when the main gate is opened or who accessed individual storage units? Is there something else I should know about? Thanks!
Storage units usually keep track of who opens the gate and when. Each customer has their own gate code, which helps identify who is accessing the facility. This is important for security, as it allows the facility to pinpoint who was present at a specific time if something gets stolen.
