To give some context, I was previously a business banker and a notary public. I also have an expired NMLS license that I never utilized, as it was a requirement for my former banking job. My knowledge as a notary is quite limited since it was mainly a formality at the bank. I’m considering using some or all of these skills to earn some extra cash without needing to report it. What would you suggest is the best avenue for me given my background?
Here are some ideas to leverage your background:
Options for Side Income:
- Notary Services (Mobile Notary/Loan Signing Agent):
- Renew your notary license and consider basic training. Mobile notaries earn good money assisting with legal documents and real estate closings.
- Loan signing agents can be in high demand, especially with real estate transactions.
- Financial Consulting/Bookkeeping:
- Use your banking experience to offer consulting services to small businesses, helping with budgeting, financial planning, or loan applications.
- Consider basic bookkeeping services using software like QuickBooks to earn from home.
- Freelance Mortgage Work:
- Consider renewing your NMLS if you’re interested in part-time mortgage processing, underwriting, or brokering (many companies now offer remote options).
- Administrative or Virtual Assistant:
- Use your organizational skills to become a virtual assistant, handling scheduling, email management, and data entry for entrepreneurs or small business owners.
- Teaching or Online Tutoring:
- Provide classes on financial literacy, particularly for individuals or small businesses. Platforms like Teachable or Skillshare can help you create online courses.
- Freelance Writing/Content Creation:
- Write articles or create content focused on your banking knowledge for financial blogs or websites. Many platforms hire freelance writers.
- Part-Time Tax Preparation:
- With some training, you could offer tax prep services during tax season. Companies, like H&R Block, provide training programs.
Low-Investment/Side Opportunities:
- Look into gig work that fits your flexible schedule.
- If you have expertise in specific areas, consider creating and selling templates or guides online.

Found a double digit IQ
And a mirror, it seems!
Point is, they only know their talents, we don’t
Yes we do, they shared them in the OP.
However, once they understand their talents, they can figure out how to profit from it anywhere on the web
Including, but not limited to, Reddit. No need to be rude, just acknowledge you don’t know what could help OP and move on.
Babysitting can be a great option. It pays well these days.
Affiliate marketing could suit you well! It’s flexible, allowing you to earn from home without needing to report to anyone. I’ve seen people (including me) generate real income with zero upfront costs, some earning $1,000 per sale. Plus, it’s simple to start.
I’m with a company that helps you succeed in affiliate marketing, providing training and support. They have an excellent system that shows how to earn commissions automatically for life. Let me know if you’re interested!

Once you develop a solid skill set, it’s possible to earn good money while paying your taxes, without living in fear of being caught. It’s puzzling why some choose short-term gain over sustainable methods.
Follow-up post in 12 months might read,
‘Stay-at-home mom caught tax evading by the IRS, how can I stay out of trouble!’
I don’t completely understand your skill set and how much money you’re hoping to make, but participating in surveys can help with smaller expenses like groceries. I use one app and make up to $50 a month. If you use multiple, you could earn a decent amount.

Attapoll has worked well for me, and you might also try PrimeOpinion or LifePoints. Check out r/beermoney for more options.
I have a Facebook group where I share everything I’ve cashed out on, including links and steps for each! Let me know if you’d like the link. I’d be happy to help you and we could both make money today.
