What made you leave the 9 to 5 grind

Hello folkks

I am interested in hearing about your experiences moving from a regular 9 to 5 job to working for yourselves at home. Whether it is freelancing, running an online business, or following a passion project, I would love to learn how you took that step and what your experience has been like

For me, everything changed when I started selling digital products. It was slow at first, but over time, it became something I could rely on. Now, I work from home, choose my own hours, and enjoy a freedom I never thought was possible. It has really transformed my personal and professional life

But I know everyone has their own story, and I would really like to hear yours

What was your 9 to 5 job and what encouraged you to change

How did you begin, and what were some of the biggest challenges

What advice would you share with someone who is thinking about making this move

I look forward to your stories and thoughts Let’s motivate each other

Feel free to share any resources or tips that helped you along the way too

I traded my 9 to 5 for a 24/7 hustle but at least my boss is someone I actually like

The boss has a big impact In my experience Two years ago I loved my job but then a new boss came along and I started to dread going to work to the point where I fell into depression It’s a relief to be out of that situation now

What do you do for your 24/7 hustle if you don’t mind me asking

Lucky I have been self employed for 10 years and my boss is quite difficult

I work remotely as a marketing manager Finding a remote role changed my life and I see more companies hiring for great remote positions which is encouraging

Which company are you with

@Blaine
I prefer not to share It’s a smaller company and I’d rather keep my privacy

I wonder if we work together haha

I am still in the 9 to 5 grind but I am using this steady income to support my self-publishing of non-fiction books and investing that money into dividends and trading options My goal is to scale back my hours once these efforts start producing much more than what my wife and I make together

I worked the 8 to 6 for exactly 10 years worrying about money and what could happen and I wasn’t happy because I was trying to earn my freedom The last year marked a decade for me when I changed my lifestyle I reduced my debt and focused on side hustle goals I wanted my freedom and I sacrificed to get it It was hard work with little sleep, but so worth it Now I get to enjoy the results of my efforts

Your story resonates with mine Now that I work for myself I help others achieve the same and that makes it even better

Absolutely I don’t have to deal with incompetent leaders or office drama It’s just me enjoying my freedom with a comfortable income However, you do need to stay disciplined as things can change rapidly but I am always keen to learn new things to stay ahead I have made more money and my life has progressed much faster in a few years than in those 10 years working for someone else

I started an ecommerce business A year later I quit then I sold that business a few years after and moved into a new industry still as an entrepreneur

What kind of business did you sell

I got laid off at age 57

I work full time in tech but from home which gives me a stable and comfortable life without having to sell courses on digital products We all know that is not a good long term plan

Hello

Your story is very relatable Leaving the 9 to 5 really opens up new options

I am my own boss now as well and it changed my life I created the 10hr10k Work Month Course and the Skool of Antiworkaholics to help others make that leap and create a life filled with freedom and flexibility

It is about starting small being consistent and trusting the process

You are on the right track

I learned skills to work at night
